SBEACH:    Storm-induced BEAch CHange Model

Overview

The Storm-induced BEAch CHange model (SBEACH) is a numerical simulation model of cross-shore beach, berm, and dune erosion produced by storm waves and water levels. The model is applied in beach fill project design and evaluation and in other studies of beach profile change. SBEACH operates in the CEDAS graphical user interface designed to facilitate data input, model setup and execution, and analysis of model results.

Numerical Model Features

  • Meso-scale sediment transport model based on equilibrium profile concepts

  • Sophisticated cross-shore breaking wave model of monochromatic and irregular waves

  • Calculation of runup, wave-induced setup, and dune overwash

  • Representation of seawalls and non-erodible hard bottoms

  • Automated calculation of erosion parameters used in project applications

User Interface Features

  • Graphical display of model input/output

  • Animation of calculated profile change

  • Batch-run capabilities for multiple simulations

  • Structured organization of model data by project reach

  • Several formats for import and export of data
